Step 1
Built-in game list
Executable names of popular games and emulators, matched instantly with no network access.
8 genres · emulators included
LeanFPS game profiles sort every game into one of eight genres and apply the tweaks that make sense for it. A competitive shooter needs different help than an open-world RPG, and a laptop needs different help than a desktop.
LeanFPS checks the foreground window every 2 seconds. It does not re-check the same process for 10 seconds, which keeps the cost close to zero. It then tries these sources in order:
Step 1
Executable names of popular games and emulators, matched instantly with no network access.
Step 2
Installed games are read from the launchers’ own library files on your PC.
Step 3
Known install folders and registry entries of the other launchers.
Step 4
An unknown program covering the whole screen is treated as a game. A windowed 3D program gets a one-time question, and your answer is remembered.
Each genre lists the games in the built-in list, the extra tweaks it turns on, and in-game advice for that genre (the first tip appears on the game card). Tips are advice only; LeanFPS never edits game settings files.

Emulators are detected too. Because the right game profile depends on the game you load in the emulator, LeanFPS applies the standard session tweaks and lets you pick a genre if you want the extra ones.
Some anti-cheat systems block other programs from changing the game process. When that happens, LeanFPS writes the game’s priority to the Windows launch setting for that executable instead, so it applies from the next launch without touching the running game. Every one of these per-game changes is listed in the app and is removed by Restore all.
Game names and executable names in the built-in list come from public sources and are still being checked on real installs. A wrong entry only means the game is found through its launcher library or the fullscreen check instead. If your game is detected wrongly, write to us from the contact page. See all tweaks on the Windows gaming tweaks page, or go back to the game optimizer home.
Usually yes. Games installed through Steam or Epic are found in their library files, and any unknown program running fullscreen is treated as a game. If the genre cannot be worked out, LeanFPS asks you once and remembers it.
Yes. If a game profile picked the wrong genre, choose another one in the game card. The new genre’s tweaks apply the next time the game is detected.
For Steam games outside the built-in list, LeanFPS uses a bundled table built from player-voted Steam tags. It does not guess when the tags are unclear; it asks you instead.
No. Game profiles only change Windows settings and the game’s process priority. Nothing is written to the game’s files or memory.
Free to use with no account. The first three games you play get every Pro tweak, so you can compare your own FPS before you decide.
